10 Ways to Get Fit on Tampa Bay Riverwalk

If you want to get some fresh air and get fit, spend a glorious day at Tampa Bay Riverwalk.  There are so many ways to get fit and have fun and many of these activities are even free.

Whether you like to run, walk, ride bikes, paddle board, canoe or water bike, there is something here for you.

Here are 10 ideas to get fit and have a great time.

1. Enjoy Free Yoga and Zumba Classes

There are regular classes going on that you can enjoy in the fresh air and they are free.  Here are some links to the calendar of events.

2. Rent a Water Bike

It burns calories and is lots of fun. Check out Tampa Bay Water Bike Company.

3. Rent a Canoe or Paddleboard or Take a Stand-Up Paddleboard Course

Urban Kai is a great place for classes or to rent a canoe, paddleboard or kayak!

4. Take a Brisk Walk Down Riverwalk

Enjoy the beautiful scenery and people watching.  It is approximately 2 miles from Armature Works to the convention center and just under a mile from Armature Works to the Straz Center.

5. Enjoy a Glorious Bike Ride

My favorite route is Riverwalk to Bayshore (via the ramp at the convention center) down to Bay to Bay.  Round trip is about 10 miles.  I also love taking it a little further down Bayshore to enjoy more exercise and beautiful scenery.

6. Climb the Stairs at the Convention Center

It’s a bit tough at first but it’s a great workout and very rewarding.

7. An Unbelievable and Fun Workout on Riverwalk and Bayshore

This is one of my favorites! This is a more advanced workout and keeps you moving well over an hour. If you are just starting out, shorten it or leave some of it out. Persistent effort gets better results than weekend warrior mode.

A. Bike from Armature Works to Bay to Bay.

B. On the way back do pull-ups and dips on the equipment on Bayshore.  If you aren’t yet strong enough to do a pull-up or dip, try band-assisted dips and pull-ups. Don’t know how to do that?  I can help. Just reach out HERE

C. Climb the convention center steps between 2 and 16 times.  Try alternating single, double and side steps up the stairs.

D. Perform push-ups and dips on the ledge at the convention center.

Note:  I like doing 4 sets up the convention center steps alternating between single, double and sideways stepping. In between each set, I challenge myself to do 15 push-ups and 15 triceps dips.

8. Train for a 5K, 15K or Half Marathon

9. Virtual Boot Camp

We can then get to work creating your perfect Anywhere, Anytime program.

10. For Dog Lovers Only 😊 Walk Your Dog to One of the Wonderful Dog Parks Along the Riverwalk

My favorites are Julian B. Lane near University of Tampa and Queenies Dog Park at Water Works Park.
